Over the summer both Terry and Helen have been doing there bit for charities in the UK, fancy cycling to Paris anyone?

Terry, for those of you that don’t know, is an avid cycling enthusiast. This was really put to the test when, for the second time he undertook the mammoth task of cycling from London to Paris for Action Medical Research. The charity played a role in developing the polio vaccine in the UK, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, hip replacement surgery and more. Touching Tiny Lives is the charity's major campaign to help sick and vulnerable babies. They aim to raise £3 million for vital new research to help prevent premature birth and life-threatening pregnancy complications. They are also developing better treatments for babies who require special care. With all this in mind, it’s clear to see why Terry is so passionate about the cause, and took on such a task. Apart from one tumble and a soggy passport the trip was a success and Terry completed it in 4 days, and raised £1200…. Terry is planning to do the trip again next year, and is of course looking for sponsors. For more information about Action Medical Research please visit www.action.org.uk.

Helen also did her bit this summer by organising a garden party to raise money for Amnesty International, an organisation campaigning for human rights around the world. The event took place on one of the few sunny Sunday’s back in August and attracted over 1000 people including MEP’s and MP’s. BTB supported the event by supplying cups, syrups and disposables, together with a donation towards the cost of the event. Poor Mat was roped in to run the ‘Potting Shed’ stall, in very hot conditions! With everything from music, to magic, a raffle and lots of fun and games the event was a huge success and raised £6,5k. Not bad for 41/2 hours! You can visit http://bristol.amnesty.org.uk for more details about the organisation and photos of the event.
