Meet our 2018 BTB Barista Bursary winner!
March 7th 2018
We are delighted to announce that Lisa-Laura Verhoest of Climpson & Sons, London is this year’s BTB Barista Bursary winner!
Building on the huge success from last year, we opened up the BTB Barista Bursary again for 2018 but with a big change to the rules. We extended the competition to applicants from anywhere in Europe who were hoping to compete in any of the six World Coffee events; Barista Championship, Brewers Cup, Coffee in Good Spirits, Latte Art, Cup Tasters and the Coffee Roasting Championship.
The BTB Barista Bursary was set up in 2016 to give financial support and advice to one lucky barista in their chosen competition from heats right through to the finals. We asked applicants to submit a short video showcasing their skills, personality and to tell us why they would benefit from the support.
Lisa-Laura entered the bursary last year and very narrowly missed out on the top spot to Darryl Docherty, so we were delighted she decided to return for a second year. Her video impressed everyone, demonstrating her dedication and drive to rapidly develop her skills and we are very excited to be able to support her this year.
Lisa-Laura will be competing in the Brewers Cup competition which highlights the craft of filter coffee brewing by hand, promoting manual coffee brewing and service excellence. Her first heat will be at the London Coffee Festival on Thursday 12th April and we cant wait to see her skills in action.
